In early 2014, Ukrainians had been fighting over the deal that wasn't made with the European Union. Their president Victor Yanukovych said he would make a deal with the European Union, but he backed out at the last minute and started to favor a deal with Russia. Protests and anger built from this idea of betrayal. The people wanted a change. They knew they had to stand up and fight for what they thought was right instead of waiting for something to happen.
