Social Media on Ferguson

I meant to post this earlier, but I  never got to it. But anyways, while I was looking through my twitter feed the other night when the Verdict about Ferguson came out saying that he would not be indited got me thinking. People in our society don't truly understand what is going on yet still think they should make ignorant comments about it. Everyone just does stuff to get attention and a few retweets and don't understand the extent of what they're saying or how it will effect other people. Like, people were tweeting things like "it's like rise of the planet apes in Ferguson right now". People don't understand how offensive that can be. It's almost 2015, racism shouldn't even be a thing anymore. I feel like people don't even think about what they post on social media anymore. they just do stuff to get attention and it makes me so mad that people are abusing social media and turning it into s negative thing.

  1. Well, Ferguson shouldn't have even be a thing in the first place. All that should have been said on this now huge subject is this " A kid was shot today by a cop after robbing a local store. The subject was killed by the shot. A full investigation will be conducted to find the cop guilty for his actions" but that was never said. The media and social media over blew the situation. A kid, just a kid, who had committed a crime was killed by a cop. That's all that happened.

    1. "You are innocent until proven guilty"

    2. It's not about the fact that Mike Brown was guilty. Cops are trained how to protect themselves. Shooting someone should be a last result. And even if it was self-defense, that's no excuse for leaving the body on street for hours. He should've reported it right away. There's nothing anyone can say that makes leaving that body out there okay.

  2. Well. O.k., but someone begin shot and dying is a pretty serious event, no matter what the circumstances. I was just wondering--do you think any students at Zumwalt West have ever taken things from a convenience store? I'm betting some of them have. Were any of them shot and killed?

  3. That is true, but were they all on drugs too? Did they fight the cop back?

  4. I agree that everyone has their own opinion, and that some people do have their reasons to protest their beliefs. I just want to state that. Anyways, there was a post my mother received on her phone from the Fox 2 news app that made her delete the app all together, the headline of the post was "White cop who shot Michael Brown resigns". All that I saw in that headline was a form of racism that some people in our time do not seem to accept. I understand that there was a life taken, and that a community has been plagued with media lies and rioters looting, however what was the main focus of the event? Racism. You cannot fight racism with more racism, by saying "White people are oppressing us" is not true. For some of us "White people" are ashamed of the past racism that plagued our country. Every year there is a "black history month" and in school we all learn about racism, but we don't hear that it goes both ways. For people to say that "white people are oppressing them" is like me saying "Black people rob stores" or "Asian people always get A's", sure there ARE a handful of people that fill those assumptions, but there is also a larger group of people that do not.

  5. In response to Bulletproof Heart, I know that I have had students in class who do drugs as long as I have been a teacher in the Zumwalt District.

  6. racism is still a big and small issue (depending on where you live really) that I think time will resolve. Yes it's wrong that any sort of oppression happened but I feel that if we all learn to ignore anything to do with race and teach others to do the same, we can slowly diffuse the problem. It might sound awful, but I'm somewhat glad that this happened because it is bringing up a lot of problems that need to be addressed and resolved. The amount of support for the cause and also for the families is astounding and I'm glad to see many famous people out joining in protests to bring attention to the problems. Anyone who thinks that turning the other way will make the problem go away is acting like an infant, as my mom likes to say about kids "out of sight, out of mind."

  7. Uhhhhhhhh but there's a video of him robbing and they proved he was on drugs while this happened and white people do experience racism, I use to live in STL where my family had many racial marks thrown towards us even though we do nothing wrong. He fought with Officer Wilson, he ended up breaking a bone in his face near his eye which made Wilson have trouble seeing so while he was shooting he couldn't aim as well. Maybe if he wasn't popping pills, he would've possibly just been alive today.

    1. Officer Wilson did not have any broken bones. All he had was bruises. They weren't even really bad bruises. When he got medically examined, they prescribed him Naprosyn. Naprosyn is sold over the counter as Aleve. So they were pretty minor injuries.

    2. Even if so, gives no to hit him, Idc that he was an officer, you shouldn't be hitting anyone. Good day, Caitlyn (:

    3. First of all, I'm not even Caitlyn? I never said that hitting an officer was okay. I'm just correcting a fact.
