Emotionally Unfair

Has anyone else noticed that adults kind of imply that kids and teens should never be/have no reason to be upset or stressed about anything? Maybe it's just me, but I always get that feeling. It's like adults expect the youth to constantly be happy and care-free (except when it comes to school, grades, jobs, your social life, and behavior, but you're not allowed to be too worried about those things). If you show even the smallest sign of stress or sadness they freak out and say things like, "You're too young to have problems," or "You have no reason to be upset," except NEWS FLASH teens are some of the most stressed-out people you will ever meet. Age does not exempt you from emotions. We are all humans who all have a wide range of emotions that can vary greatly.

  3. Okay so when you were 3 and someone stole your toy, it was the end of the world. I guess it is simply perspective. I laugh when middle schoolers complain about homework. But its a big deal to them.

  4. While i do agree that people should keep the extent of their emotions in check, I also believe that doesn't stop you from having those feelings. Ever had a crush on some one? You could sit there and tell yourself that you shouldn't like them because *insert whatever reason*, you can't talk yourself out of your emotions.

  5. I agree. My own parents do that saying, "When I was your age I was always stress free and just lived life with all the positives. We didn't have all these stupid drama back in my day."

  6. Ah I agree so much!! My parents pressure me so much, and it causes more stress, but then i stress out because when they see me stress they push me harder. So i have to stress over not stressing. But I believe that this generation has the most stress out of our ancestors, because of social media. You have to be perfect for media to accept you and i thing thats why we have so much stress.

  7. Bless this post!
It absolutely infuriates me when adults think teenagers have nothing to be stressed about! We have every right to be stressed! At this time in our lives we're expected to figure out our career, what college we want to go to, maintain grades, and not to mention the fact that our hormones are out of whack!
And don't get me started on when people say, "You have no reason to be depressed, you're life is fantastic!"
