Toronto has amusement parks, beaches, zoos/aquariums, and festivals. It's also the largest city with about 2.8 million people living there. Toronto is one of the most visited places.

Slut Shaming

So it's 8:30 on a Sunday night and while most people are glued to the TV watching the Oscars, I'm fighting with my boyfriend about feminism. I had an issue with the way he approached me about societal views on women a couple days ago, teenage girls in particular, so I confronted him about it tonight. So now, he keeps trying to shove this "You know it's harder for guys to get girls, so they should get praised for getting with a bunch of them," idea down my throat. He actually just made a comment like, "If a girl has sex with a bunch of guys, that's disgusting. I'm sorry if that offends you but its most definitely a popular opinion." So me, thinking on my feet, completely reversed the roles in the same exact sentence and sent it back to him. Now he's taking this all as a big joke and decides to go on telling me how outrageous I'm being. Is he being ignorant, or is it just me? Thoughts?

I was looking around and I found out that the next post (this one) is the 100th post!

So, I feel like I should ask what you've gotten out of this and how do you feel about the blog?

The best review of 1984

In George Orwell's 1984, Winston Smith is an open source developer who writes his code offline because his ISP has installed packet sniffers that are regulated by the government under the Patriot Act. It's really for his own protection, though. From, like, terrorists and DVD pirates and stuff. Like every good American, he drinks Coca-Cola and his processed food has desensitized his palate to all but four flavors: sweet, salty-so-that-you-will-drink-more-coca-cola, sweet, and Cooler Ranch! His benevolent overlords have provided him with some war happening somewhere for some reason so that he, and the rest of the population, can be sure that the government is really in his best interests. In fact, the news always has some story about Paris Hilton or yet another white girl who has been abducted by some evil bastard who is biologically wired by 200,000 years of human evolution to **** 12-year-olds, but is socially conditioned to be obsessed with sex, yet also to feel guilty about it. This culminates into a distorted view of sexuality, and results in rape and murder, which both make for very good news topics. This, too, is in Winston's best interests because, while fear is healthy, thinking *too* much about his own mortality is strictly taboo, as it may lead to something dangerously insightful, and he might lose his taste for Coca Cola and breast implants. The television also plays on his fears of the unknown by exaggerating stereotypes of minorities and homosexuals, under the guise of celebrating "diversity", but even these images of being ghetto-fabulous and a lisping interior designer actually exist solely to promote racism and homophobia, which also prove to be efficient distractions.

For some reason, Winston gets tired of eating recycled Pop Tarts and eating happy pills and pretending to be interested in sports and manufactured news items. But, in the end, they fix him and he's happy again. Or something.

Points of View From an Optimist

If you read any of my posts you should know clearly that i'm an Optimist. If you don't know what an Optimist is i'll give a brief description, An Optimist is person who believes in pretty much everything, or who says that everything is right and wrong  at the same time. So for example, What a Christian believes in is right and wrong. I see everything as an opportunity to become better than myself. I use every bit of knowledge to my advancement. Something a lot more touchy than Christianity. What Hitler did was right and wrong. Now don't hate me because of that. Hitler unified his people under one cause, for most people that cause is immediately notified as being terrible, but I don't. Hitler used this cause to make his people happy. He gave them money, power, even purpose. During WW2 the economy of Germany boomed. Inflation was no longer a problem. Why? Because Hitler used his cause as a way to improve this. Yet what Hitler did was also terrible. He killed millions of people just because of their religion. He persecuted these people, tortured them, made them inhuman. He made their lives a living hell, but for everyone else in Germany who wasn't Jewish prospered and their lives got a hundred times better. What Hitler did was amazing for the non Jewish population of Germany. What he did to the Jewish population was terrible. He did something so terrible to do something so good. Do you understand now? Everything that happens is good and bad, nice and mean, cool and stupid, there is no or. Or is for people who can't see both sides. Or is for people who don't understand why i'm saying what i'm saying. I never use the word or anymore. It has no meaning. Here, give me a Challenge. Reply to this with something you'd like to see from both sides. The good and the bad. I'll make sure to reply to every comment and ones that tickle my fancy more than the others I might even make a full post about it. So please do that. Again, as usual, I want to hear every opinion on my opinions. I have a feeling that someone isn't going to understand what I just said and get real mad at me for making Hitler look like a good guy.
